To be fair to the Muslims they don't have too many names to choose from if it's a boy... I mean they can hardly be called Gary Miandad

Swindon, back in the days of Eyal, there was an Israeli poster called amir, who was attacked for having a Jewish name by someone called Dave something, or maybe something Dave.

That always amused me.

More of a concern is the name David seems to be less common.

Everyone knows a Dave.

According to Wiki, Nigel is the result of a French monkish mistake - they erroneously traced the Norse (and Norman) name Neel back to Latin for black, and so made "Nigel" the Latin translation of Neel.

It's ALWAYS been a mistake

At least Nigel is dying out. Always thought it a stupid fucking name.

Myra is an Arabic and Hebrew name, as well as being an invented English one (like Wendy).

Muhammad is not English so it cannot in my mind be described as an English name, although what is English? certainly not the name Adam or Abraham John Luke Moses etc etc, although they are Jewish which Christianity and Islam came after, This has more about The Muslims having tons of kids rather than an English name .

Chill, mate. I did read it and found it interesting that's all. Hence the "who knew?

On another note, I am glad things change. Everyone and their dog (including 3 friends of mine in school) was named Jason around the time of my birth. Does not really seem the name for an adult in my brain.

Less than 3 babies were named with my name last year

Who names their kid after a paedophile?

If you'd been arsed to read the rest of the C&P, you'd see that, even in my excerpt, it's explicitly stated that class differences in name choice evolve.

I hazard a guess that your great-grandmother wasn't named this century.

Eleanor is a posh name? Who knew?

My great-grandmother was Eleanor (and therefor my great aunt) but she lived in terrace house in Limehouse with her parents, 8 siblings and two boarders.

(Her brother did become mayor of Poplar after going to jail with his pregnant wife and George Lansbury for not collecting taxes when he was a counselor.)

Zeb,

Well clearly. Political correctness gone mad. Reverse racism. Erosion of national identity. Etc. Repeat ad infinitum.

159 baby boys who were born in 2016 were named Paul in England and Wales. More than I thought.

I really struggle to understand why anyone gives a toss about stuff like this. Do people think they are going to be forced to name their next child Muhammad? If not, what difference does it make to anyone?
